Taittinger is one of Champagne’s oldest houses and one of the few to be owned and actively managed by the family on the label. The original house was founded in 1734 and acquired by Pierre Taittinger in 1931. Today, his great grandchildren Vitalie and Clovis are at the helm. Taittinger owns 288 hectares of vineyards, making it the third largest domaine owner in the region. It sits upon 4th-century UNESCO-listed cellars, which once belonged to the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of St Nicaise.
Their Prélude is made from Grands Crus Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit, taken from just the first pressing, with a maturation period of five years in the cellar. It's beautifully balanced - fresh and mineral on the nose, evolving into a rounded, rich palate. This is the ideal prelude to an evening of celebration, to be enjoyed as an aperitif or alongside seafood.
