Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
75cl * Vegan * 12.5% ABV * Champagne, France
Ruinart is a relatively under-the-radar house in the UK, but has a long and illustrious history. At the age of 23, Dom Thierry Ruinart travelled from Champagne to study near Paris, where he was exposed to city life and the young aristocrats' fondness for a new 'wine with bubbles' (not yet known in Champagne). He convinced his family that Champagne had a promising future for a similar style of wine and in 1729 his brother and nephew founded Maison Ruinart, the very first Champagne house.
Their rosé blends the freshness of chardonnay with the fruitiness of pinot noir. On the nose, there are notes of pomegranate and rose, with red berries on the palate followed by hints of peppermint and pink grapefruit on the finish. A wonderfully elegant wine, with perfect roundness and structure. Serve no colder than 8 degrees in a tulip-shaped glass. Try alongside a duck and grapefruit salad made with chicory, pomegranate and basil.
