Gruner Veltliner
75cl * 13.0% ABV * Nelson, New Zealand
New Zealand's winemakers are less bound by wine legislation than their counterparts in Europe, meaning that they can grow pretty much any grape variety in any region. Seifried Estate is a champion of unusual grape varieties and count Sylvaner, Muller Thurgau and Refosco among their output. Gruner Veltliner is most often associated with its native Austria, however it is also suited to Nelson's mild climate. Here, it results in an aromatic wine, hinting at almonds, honeydew melon and ground pepper. Crisp and dry, it would make a nice alternative to Chablis, Muscadet or Albarino. Pair with light salads, schnitzel or chicken dishes.
