Delas Frères, founded in 1835, is a historic Rhone Valley winery based in Tain-l’Hermitage and forms part of the esteemed Roederer Collection. Today, the wines are crafted by winemaker Jacques Grange (who is originally from Burgundy).
The grapes used in the 'La Landonne' are hand-picked, and the wine aged for 14-15 months in new or one-year-old oak casks. The wine has a complex nose of deep fruit with hints of liquorice and roasted coffee. On the palate, it's a full, fleshy wine with dense, silky tannins and a long finish that speaks to its aging potential.
Drink 2027 through 2033.
'Tasted blind. Peppery, fragrant nose with powerful blackberry fruit. The palate shows some well-integrated toasty oak notes and the purity of fruit is excellent. Long, spiced finish. A great example of how full-on flavour can be achieved without extraction or overripeness.' 17.5pts, Richard Hemming MW for JancisRobinson.com (November 2018).
