"...a fabulous, sensationally clean, and stunningly resonant wine." Matthew Jukes
Torbreck was founded in 1994 with a commitment to preserving some of the oldest vines on the planet in the dry-grown vineyards that surround the Barossa Valley. Planted in the 1840s, the vines still thrive and bear fruit with wonderful concentration. They are honoured through the production of fine wines with richness, structure and length with the ability to age gracefully.
Inspired by the rich, luscious and mineral scented dry whites of the Rhône Valley, The Steading Blanc is sourced entirely from the Descendant Vineyard on Roennfeldt Road first planted in 1994 on the Torbreck estate. The ripe, fleshy, barrel fermented Viognier and Marsanne gives the palate a textural edge whilst the Roussanne contributes it’s more flinty and austere personality
Dry conditions continued for a second consecutive growing season in the lead up to the 2025 harvest. The earliest ever start and finish to a vintage followed due to the continual warm and dry weather, with the vineyard crops yielding less than average as a result. High quality wines with great acidity and depth of colour highlight the season.
The Marsanne and Viognier unerwent a slow, indigenous fermentation and rested on fine lees for 8 months in a combination of seasoned and new french oak barriques, whilst the Rousanne was racked from lees into tank.
Fragrant aromas of white flowers, summer stone fruits, kaffir lime, honey dew melon balanced with underlying hints of bee’s wax and spices such as lemongrass, cumquat, orange peel and ginger root. The palate shows wonderful freshness across a medium bodied weight, balanced by a line of acidity that enhances the freshness citrus and tropical fruit notes. A wine to enjoy in its youth, yet blossom into a fuller version of itself showing secondary characteristics of brioche and lime chutney. Enjoy with most seafood inspired dishes such as ceviche or a Thai seafood salad. Serve at 10C/50F. enjoy on release to 8 years.
"This time, the top white wine at Torbreck is sourced from vineyards with clay in the mix. 53% Roussanne, 45% Marsanne, and 2% Viognier are carefully blended to create a fabulous, sensationally clean, and stunningly resonant wine. Sitting at only 12.5% alcohol, The Steading Blanc is a glorious ‘white Rhône blend’, and the only downside is that only 350 cases of 12 bottles were made! I cannot remember tasting a more layered and yet so brightly fruited and perfumed white blend! Vivacious, refreshing and with a good few years in the tank, this is going to amaze allcomers when it hits the market, and I imagine it will only improve and mellow over the coming five years." 19/20, Matthew Jukes
"The 2025 The Steading Blanc comprises a blend of Roussanne (60%), Marsanne (37%) and Viognier (3%) and will be released on March 1, 2026. The wine spends a year in barrel, with a small percentage new. This is floral and juicy, full on the middle palate and rich in flavor but not heavy. It’s a wine that shows the personalities of its varieties but is not defined by any one of them. It has notes of white pineapple, green apple, cheesecloth, wet chalk, layers of wax and pressed flowers. This is a truly successful blend. It’s classy. 12.2% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." 93/100, Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate
