A superb vintage from Dow’s. James Suckling described this as the “Best Dow in decades”. In June, 1996, when the wines were still in the barrel, Suckling wrote an article entitled Monumental 1994 Vintage Port, stating: “If you love classic vintage Port, you’re going to fall head over heels for 1994. Great Port vintages like this only happen a few times in a lifetime.”
Enjoy this when it’s young and vibrant or allow it to age for many more years in bottle (even up to a hundred years!) into a soft and delicate wine of velvet-like elegance. The nose of the 1994 has the distinctive ‘violet’ aroma which is always present in the great years. Decant for at least an hour and a half, if not two hours.
