Guado al Tasso comes from Antinori’s Bolgheri estate, one of the leading names of the Tuscan coast. The vineyards sit within what is known at the “Bolgheri Amphitheatre,” a plain surrounded by hills, opening out onto the Tyrrhenian Sea. This setting creates the ideal microclimate: warm days, cool nights and steady breezes that allow the grapes to ripen fully while maintaining freshness and aromatic intensity.
The estate covers 320 hectares under vine, planted on varied alluvial soils ranging from sandy-clay to silty-clay with sections of fine gravel known locally as scheletro. This is particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot - the core grape varieties of Guado al Tasso.
The 2015 season was excellent, with a mild spring and early flowering followed by a warm summer. Cooler nights in late August helped balance ripeness with acidity, leading to an evenly paced harvest between September 12th and October 9th. The final blend is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Each variety was vinified and aged separately before blending, ensuring clarity of expression and balance.
In the glass, the wine opens with ripe berry fruit layered with notes of roasted coffee, leather and spice. The palate is full-bodied and structured, with polished tannins and a freshness that supports the rich fruit. Savoury undertones of tobacco and herbs lend depth, leading into a persistent finish.
Guado al Tasso 2015 is a benchmark vintage with significant aging potential, already showing balance and complexity but capable of developing further in bottle. Ideal pairings include grilled or roasted red meats, game, and mature cheeses.
