Puligny-Montrachet lies on clay-limestone soils, stretching between Meursault to the north and Chassagne to the south. This particular expression is drawn from 25 lieux-dits across the appellation, including parcels on the Meursault side and in the heart of the village, just below Premiers Crus such as Clavoillon and Perrières. The vines sit between 230 and 350 meters altitude, with an average age of 40 years, and produce wines defined by tension, minerality, and precision.
The 2023 growing season was the hottest on record. Disease pressure was high, and ripening uneven, but careful vineyard work and rigorous sorting brought a harvest of quality as well as quantity. The resulting wine captures the year’s intensity while retaining the energy and refinement of Puligny. Grapes were harvested by hand, vinified as whole bunches, and aged for 18 months, with 20% new oak and six months in stainless steel to preserve freshness.
In the glass, the wine opens with aromas of spring flowers, citrus, and green apple, layered with struck-match reduction and stony minerality. The palate is fleshy yet precise, with ripe stone fruits balanced by vibrant acidity. The finish is long, combining energy, depth, and elegance.
A benchmark example of Puligny-Montrachet and one of Olivier Leflaive’s flagship wines. Drink now to 2032. Serve chilled, paired with lobster, seafood vol-au-vent, scallops in beurre blanc, grilled veal and mushrooms, roast chicken, or simply just a good goat cheese or aged Comté
'A blend from all the plots of Puligny except Charmes and Trézin. A pretty bouquet with some fresh citrus blossom on the nose, pure white fruit on the palate, which is on the broader side but with enough concentration to kick on nicely to a tasty finish. Very correct and quite accessible.' 89-91pts, Jasper Morris MW
