Château La Tour de By comes from the prestigious Médoc region, where the estate’s gravelly vineyards enjoy a unique position between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean. The 2018 vintage was warm and dry, allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot grapes to reach full ripeness, producing a wine of depth, elegance, and precision. Matured in oak barrels, the wine combines structure and refinement, while expressing the distinctive character of its terroir.
This wine has a nose of ripe blackcurrants, black cherries, and cassis, with layers of liquorice, black pepper and cedar. As it opens up in the glass, the aromas become more complex, revealing warm spice, cocoa, and tobacco. On the palate, the generous Merlot fruit is well-balanced by the precision and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. Silky, finely grained tannins carry the wine to a long, persistent finish.
This elegant, full-bodied Médoc pairs beautifully with roasted or grilled red meats, lamb shank confit, mature hard cheeses such as Comté or Cantal, or a duck a l'orange.
