The Mortelle estate sits in the heart of Maremma, near the town of Castiglione della Pescaia. Botrosecco, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, captures the Mediterranean warmth of the region.
The 2023 growing season was marked by a cool, rainy spring followed by hot summer spells, with late-season temperature swings preserving the aromas of the fruit. Grapes were carefully destemmed, crushed, fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, and aged for nine months in barriques before bottling.
On the nose, there are aromas of blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrants, cranberries, cocoa, and white pepper. On the palate it is full-bodied yet supple, with soft tannins, savoury depth, and a long finish that echoes the wine’s aromatic profile. Pair with grilled red meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses to complement its rich fruit and savoury tannins.
