Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
75cL * 13.5% ABV * DOC Maremma, Tuscany, Italy
The Mortelle estate sits in the heart of Maremma, near the town of Castiglione della Pescaia. Botrosecco, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, captures the Mediterranean warmth of the region. The grapes are carefully destemmed, crushed, fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, and aged for nine months in barriques before bottling.
The first half of the 2023 growing season at Le Mortelle can best be defined as cooland rainy, particularly until June, while the summer months experienced heat spikes. Budbreak took place right on schedule but rain showers in Mayand June caused slightlyinconsistent flowering and fruit set. The end of August/beginning of September brought both lower temperaturesand ideal temperature swings between dayand night, factors thatallowed the grapes to preserve their unique aromatic profiles. The grape harvest began the second week of September with Cabernet Franc, which gave the wine an elegant tannic structure, and continued one week later with Cabernet Sauvignon with berries that presented fragrant notes of ripe red fruit.
