This wine comes from the vineyards surrounding the medieval castle at Castello della Sala, and forms part of the Antinori Estate. The clay-veined soils rich in fossil shells make it the perfect terroir for top quality Chardonnay - hence this winery being home to the revered 'Cervaro', to which this can be considered the baby brother.
The 2023 growing season saw a gradual, balanced ripening of the fruit, lending depth and complexity to the wine, while partial oak aging and malolactic fermentation bring richness and texture. Bright citrus and peach with white flowers and vanilla on the nose are accompanied by toasted hazelnuts, fresh butter and brioche on the palate. There is weight to the wine and a creaminess of texture, yet it possesses good structure and minerality that affirm its elegance. The finish is long and savoury.
Ultimately, a Chardonnay that is Grand Cru-esque in style and quality, yet at a friendlier price point. This wine would pair excellently with Mediterranean-inspired dishes like octopus and Burrata.
