The Rosso di Montalcino from Tenuta di Collosorbo is a vibrant and approachable red that captures the essence of Tuscany with elegance and authenticity. Made entirely from Sangiovese, the grapes are drawn partly from the estate’s prized vineyards dedicated to Brunello and partly from younger vines, giving the wine both depth and freshness. Harvest is carried out by hand with meticulous selection before fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks and a medium-length maceration to extract colour, fruit and fine tannins. The wine then matures for a year in large Slavonian and French oak barrels, with a small portion in barriques, before resting further in bottle to integrate and refine.

Collosorbo, a historic family-run estate, has been at the heart of Montalcino for generations, combining tradition with precision in both vineyard and cellar. Their Rosso di Montalcino reflects the same care and character that defines their Brunello, but in a style that is fresher, more immediate, and highly versatile. The result is a lively wine with expressive fruit, supple tannins and a balance that makes it equally suited to early enjoyment or short-term cellaring.

A natural partner for Tuscan cuisine, it pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roast lamb, hearty pasta dishes or aged Pecorino.

Notes by Michael Palij MW: Collosorbo’s outlook is refreshingly humble. Laura and Lucia Ciacci have taken on their mother’s mantle with gusto, producing a Rosso that is more ‘Baby Brunello’ than anything else. With vineyards smack dab in the middle of ‘Millionaire’s Row’ (the road between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell’Abate on Brunello’s southern flank) it’s not surprising that their Sangiovese ripens to perfection pretty much every year. Grapes are picked by hand at optimal maturity over two weeks and no distinction is made in either fermentation or maturation for either Rosso or Brunello. Maturation is exclusively in large, old oak and when the family needs some Rosso, they take it out of the Brunello programme and bottle it. This really is ‘Baby Brunello’ and it wins the “Value for Money” award hands down.
