The 2022 Meursault from Olivier Leflaive is a refined expression of one of Burgundy's most renowned white wine villages. With a history of viticulture dating back to 1098 under the monks of Citeaux, these vineyards continue to produce wines of depth and character.
Despite a dry start to the growing season and frost episodes in early April, conditions for the 2022 vintage proved favourable. Sunshine levels broke records, bringing the equivalent of an extra month of summer, resulting in a healthy, balanced crop. All grapes were harvested by hand, preserving the integrity of each carefully selected parcel.
This wine is a blend of up to 20 plots, from the rich and deep clay at the base of the slope to the limestone on the upper 'mountain', thus reflecting the full range of the appellation's terroir. It is made from 100% whole grapes, then fermented and aged in oak barrels, 20% new.
The nose opens with subtle almond notes, lifted by floral touches of acacia and bright citrus. The palate is precise and well-defined, showing fresh lemon, lively acidity, and a structured core. Balanced and elegant with richness and definition. Pair with slow-cooked cod in herb beurre blanc, roast poultry, seasonal vegetables, mushroom risotto, or soft cheeses like Soumaintrain and Citeaux.
