Pinot Noir
75cl * 14% ABV * Waipara Valley, New Zealand
From the heart of North Canterbury's Waipara Valley, Pegasus Bay is the result of over four decades of passion and expertise from the Donaldson family.
Crafted with traditional Burgundian methods, the 2020 Pinot Noir comes from old, low-yielding vines grown in the stony Glasnevin Gravels of North Canterbury's Waipara Valley. A dry summer and warm autumn produced small, intensely flavoured berries, harvested at perfect ripeness. The result is a bright, ruby-hued wine with a complex nose of dark cherry, cranberry, truffle and woodsmoke, laced with hints of clove and crushed lavender. The palate is broad and silky, framed by fine tannins and a lively acidity, balancing freshness with depth. There is impressive length to the finish, characterised by a savoury spice.
Drinking beautifully now. Pair with roasted duck breast in a spiced plum sauce.
95pts, James Suckling Wine Reviews - 'Deliciously savoury... There is concentration in the mid-palate that pushes the palate through to a generous finish. Deep and complex.'
91pts, Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous - 'Combining ripeness and fruit concentration with the cool climate tension of the Waipara Valley... There's plenty of fruit weight here and an abundance of fine-grained tannins in the context of Pinot Noir, providing a sturdy frame for this wine to evolve.'
