Xinomavro and Moschomavro
75cl * 13.5% ABV * Macedonia, Greece
Greece is in throes of a vinous renaissance. Gone are the days of dodgy, pine-scented retsina served in even dodgier tavernas - Greek wine is every bit as fine as the great bottles of the rest of Europe. And for those who love the crisp charm of Provençal rosé, this wine from Ktima Voyatzi is a compelling alternative.
Located in Velvento, the Winery is a family-run estate founded in the 1990s by brothers Yannis and Nico Voyatzi. Situated at 340 meters in the foothills of the Pieria Mountains near Lake Polyfytos, the vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate and organic farming practices.
Made from a blend of Xinomavro and Moschomavro grapes, it has aromas of wild strawberry, pink grapefruit and dried herbs. On the palate, it's dry and refreshing, yet layered, with notes of tart red berries, citrus peel, and a hint of spice. There's a textured complexity and slight herbal undertone, followed by a savoury finish, making this a natural match for food. Pair with a Greek salad, grilled octopus, or saganaki.
