En Primeur Ridge Geyserville 2023, 3L [in bond ex vat] ETA August/Sept. 2025

Ridge's first vines were planted in 1885, but they truly stunned the world when their wines swept the board at Steven Spurrier's 1976 Judgement of Paris competition. Ever since then, Ridge has produced wines that have been rightfully regarded amongst the finest Bordeaux blends and Burgundian-style whites. And Zinfandel is yet another jewel in their crown.

In the 2023 vintage, cooler weather in August and September meant a longer ripening time, though the fruit was full of character, with good acidity and supple tannins. The twenty-eight lots fermented separately, on naturally present yeast. Of these, twenty were selected - by taste - for their exquisite fruit and balanced acidity.

This is a classic Geyserville, with ripe black cherry, blueberry and fig, notes of herb, graphite and sweet oak spice; enjoyable young, and over the next ten years or so.
