Pinot Gris
75cl * 12.0% * Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
Esk Valley wines has a pedigree that dates back to 1933 and they apply the same dedication that they have over these many years to growing, sourcing and making well made wines. The use of concrete tanks for fermentation, a tendency to use wild indigenous yeasts and long lees aging to give their wines complexity and body.
The red grapes are grown in the Gimblett Gravels area of the Hawke's Bay region. This area is full, unsurprisingly, of gravel soils which are free draining and therefore force the vines to work harder to find water. A stressed vine will produce better fruit as a result.
This wine has wonderful flavours of baked pear, honey, citrus and apricot. It has had extended lees aging which has given this wine more body as well as adding to complexity. A hint of residual sugar to balance the fresh acidity and a long dry finish. Great with pork, chicken, and Asian dishes.
