Pinot Noir
1.5L * 15% ABV * Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
Domaine Henri Gouges, long considered among the finest estates in Nuits-Saint-Georges, traces its roots back over four centuries of family grape growing. Founded in 1920 by Henri Gouges, a pioneer in bottling estate wines and a key figure in defining Burgundy’s crus, the domaine remains in family hands under the guidance of Gregory and Antoine Gouges. They farm organically to produce wines that beautifully reflect their terroir.
Clos des Porrets, a rare nine-acre monopole lying just below Perrières, sits on pink limestone and clay once quarried by the monks of Cîteaux. From this stony, calcareous soil comes Pinot Noir of depth and elegance, offering layers of red and black fruit, earthy spice, and a refined mineral finish that gains further finesse with a few years of cellaring.
'Very ripe yet still reasonably fresh aromas are comprised by notes of roasted plum, black cherry, cassis and earth. The dense, powerful and muscular broad-shouldered flavours are supported by a very firm tannic spine on the robust, serious and very compact finale. This is quite impressive though certainly not typical'. 93pts - Allen Meadows, Burghound
