A lot is focused on re-birth at Chateau la Pointe. The winery and its vines had, in their own words, stood still, whilst others around them excelled. Their understanding is that they were not working to the land but rather taking from it. And that was the re-birth needed, to refocus this ambition back into the soil. From 2008 onward Eric Monneret has been doing just that. Soils samples to better understand the land, vine-care programmes, renovations of the cellars and sustainability at the heart of a new philosophy to be applied to really re-invigorate this wine.
2020 was an exceptional year in Pomerol; producing Merlot that was wonderfully ripe but not heavy, allowing the wine to be both opulent and elegant. Deep purple and ruby, the aromas are enticing with wild berries, like bramble, blackcurrant and wild strawberries, followed by peony and violet and notes of black pepper and sandalwood. The palate is smooth and rich, dark fruits and cedar. A wonderful balance with a minerality and good tannins. Delicious wine that won't disappoint any right bank Merlot fan.
