Viura, Garnacha Blanca
75cl * Vegan * 13.0% ABV * Rioja, Spain
Rioja Blanca is amongst some of the most underrated wines in the world. Viura has characters of stone fruit, melon and hazelnut and always shows best when it has a blending partner. Here with Garnacha Blanca, which has characters of citrus fruit, pear and floral notes. Together they create a fantastic wine, round and refreshing, good acid and lovely fruit characters. The nutty character and the stone fruit mellow into a good finish.
Best served cold and paired with Spain's favourite fish, the Hake, in a saffron jus, on a bed of mustard mash.
The Taurus team tasted this wine recently, read our notes below:
This is a classic Rioja Blanco, everything you want is here, the creamy character and the oak. The floral aromas and lemon dominate the nose along with a smoky character. On the palate the lemon is smooth and creamy, as if you are enjoying a lemon posset, the creaminess carries on and the oak and toasted flavours abound, with smoked nuts and vanilla pairing beautifully. This is rich and opulent. Definitely a wine to enjoy in the evening sun when the cares of the day drift away.
