The 2019 vintage was difficult to say the least. Low rainfall in winter and spring led to severe frosts before summer. As a result, the ripening was late and the harvest was a struggle. Patience paid off, this inky black Cabernet is indulgent with some green notes in what is otherwise a concentrated wine, reminiscent of a classic Bordeaux. Bay leaf, earthy notes and some fine tannins are supported by intense black fruit characteristics. Oak has been used but it is wonderfully integrated.
A lovely bit of roasted lamb will pair beautifully with this delicious Cabernet. A stone-baked pizza or a ragu are great pairings, as is some mature cheese, like Stilton or a Golden Cross goats cheese from Sussex.
