This limited edition Baron de Sigognac 1974 Vintage Armagnac, presented in a wooden gift box, is the perfect 50th birthday or 50th anniversary gift in 2024, and not only for Brandy connoisseurs.

Baron de Sigognac is owned and operated by the Guasch family, who have been in Gascony since the 12th century. Their 60 hectare estate is predominantly planted with Ugni Blanc and Baco vines. They have owned the chateau at Bordeneuve since 1974 and are one of the region's largest courtier and negociant operations.

All Armagnacs are distilled in a copper still from 1920. A vintage Armagnac is allowed to mature in oak barrels for up to about 40 years. As Armagnac ages it becomes darker in colour and softer, smoother and more elegant on the palate whilst aromas and flavours of prunes, violets, fig, honey, and butterscotch develop. Part of the alcohol evaporates naturally during the long years in cask – this is known as “la part des anges” (the angel’s share).

The texture is supple and smooth, a testament to the lengthy ageing. Candied pear and apricot flavours come alive on the palate, their sweetness balanced by a gentle wave of oak spice. As the Armagnac lingers, a hint of vanilla reappears, harmonising with the subtle spice notes.
