6 x 75cl * Biodynamic * 13.5% ABV * Margaux, Bordeaux, France

Owned by the Sichel family since 1961, Angludet is situated at the heart of the prestigious appellation of Margaux and surrounded by Cru Classé properties, including Angludet's sister vineyard, the more famous Château Palmer. Palmer, by the way, is one of those châteaux where the wine is sold by the bottle to us retailers, rather than the case - you know you're dealing with the 'big dogs' when that happens! Angludet would no doubt have been 'classified', as Palmer and other châteaux were in 1855 (Palmer is a third growth, but is often referred to as a 'super second'), but it was split up as part of an inheritance settlement and didn't qualify. Shame for them, but better for us and our pockets.

Drink 2028 to 2045.

"A polished and in-check red with blackberry, dark-chocolate and walnut aromas and flavors. It has a medium body, creamy and round tannins and a savory finish. Well done for this estate. Better than 2022." 93-94 points, James Suckling (April 2024)

"While many properties benefitted from generous yields in 2023, Angludet was, again, stuck at around 20 hl/ha, which is tight, to say the least.  This is because they have adopted a new pruning regime that, on the one hand, restricts crops in the short term but endeavours to avoid mildew problems, which was a scourge in the 2023 vintage. They expect yields to increase over the coming years. Darker in colour than expected, this beautifully perfumed wine is quiet on the front half of the palate and then expands, gathering intensity and bravado, and the finish is glorious. With tension, drama, and sappy fruit notes, this is a superb wine with refined, emery board tannins on the finish. Returning to the glass a second and third time, the fruit seems even more expressive.  2023 is a fabulous vintage for Angludet and I have not seen this balance of dark fruit and riveting freshness before at this estate. While it ought to drink well from 2030, it is likely to have the energy to last for a further 15 years with ease. Interestingly, this is undoubtedly the finest of the ‘inexpensive Margaux’, so act fast if you are a fan. Chapeau." 18+/20 points, Matthew Jukes
