Garganega

75cl * Vegan * 12.5% ABV * Soave Classico D.O.C, Veneto, Italy

Inama is a third-generation, family-owned winery based in Verona. Stefano Inama feels the key to making great Soave is “working with old vines from the best plots”. “I Palchi” is one of these plots that dates back to when his father bought the vineyard in the 1950s. Since 2019, thanks to their optimum exposition and meticulous vineyard management, Inama have obtained a special selection of outstanding grapes from this area of wide terraces, lined with pergolas of old Garganega vines. The Soave Classico produced here immediately revealed itself to be a unique wine, thus a new label was born - Foscarino Grande Cuvée.

The scientific study of the lunar eclipse shown on the label is taken from an engraving in Vol. XXXIV of the “Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure” (1764), a monthly publication on the arts and sciences printed in London, which sought to be both instructive and entertaining for “the gentry, merchants, farmers, and tradesmen alike”. In a historical context, 1764 is in the heart of the Enlightenment, a period in which man placed himself at the centre of the Universe. From a symbolic point of view, the Inama family felt the label represents their progress: an intellectual process in search of the maximum expression of Soave, as well as of a new level of purity.

Elegance is the defining characteristic of this wine. The “I Palchi Soave Classico” captures the volcanic soil of this ancient grape-growing region with notes of mineral, stone fruit and flinty hints. Garganega confers floral complexity with notes of white flowers, chamomile, citrus. Drink with anything dusted with Parmesan, in particular risotto and asparagus or white fish and sushi.

Serve at 8-10°C (i.e. remove from the fridge about half an hour before serving).

97 points, James Suckling, Top 100 Wines of Italy 2023 "Wow. This is fantastic with mangoes, lemons, pears and hints of vanilla. Mineral, too. It's full-bodied with bright fruit and a vivid finish. Lots of minerals. A selection of the best grapes of Inama in the grand cru Foscarino. Much less use of barrels than in the past with large cask and stainless. Superb. Drink or hold."

94+ points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "The 2021 Soave Classico Foscarino Grand Cuvee I Palchi is what they describe as the most representative goal for this wine. Made with 100% Garganega, this wine is beautifully textured and fresh, almost crunchy, and very detailed across with peach, honeydew melon, exotic fruit and crushed oyster shell."

94 Points, Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast: 'Grown on the wide terraces on the Monte Foscarino, this Soave showcases Garganega's importance as one of Italy's great and noble white grapes. The nose opens with aromas of fleshy white peach, Fuji apple, acacia honey, dried yellow flowers and subtle hints of baking spice. Rich and full in Body, yet graceful at the same time, the wine has notes of roasted orange peel, apricot and pear all dusted with baking spices and finished with a crushed stone minerality.'
