70cl * 45% ABV * Jamaica, Caribbean
The 'Best Rum in the World 2020' as voted for by industry experts, this is the first official premium rum to be released by the Jamaican estate. The family-run Worthy Park Estate was established in 1670, and started producing rum as early as 1741. Although it was a highly successful distillery, the glut of Jamaican rum after WW2 meant that it ceased production in the 1960s. It was completely rebuilt in 2004 and now seems destined to regain its place as one of the great distilleries.
This single-estate sipping rum has been batch-distilled, aged, blended and bottled on site. A blend of 100% copper pot-still rums that have been aged between 6-10 years. A natural, light amber colour; the nose has aromas of light tobacco and toasted oak, spiced raisins and plums, with soft vanilla emerging after time in the glass. The palate is luscious with tropical fruits and a soft, buttery, almost creamy texture. Dry and slightly bitter, soft tannins are rounded by toasted oak and nutmeg. A hint of black pepper and a touch of ginger lingers in the soft, dry finish.
