Sangiovese, Merlot

150cl * Vegan * Organic * 14.5% ABV * Chianti Classico IGT, Tuscany, Italy

One of the oldest vineyards in Italy, with the first recording of its existence in 1435, Siepi has been owned by Mazzei family since 1435. Their unique location and particular microclimate in the heart of Chianti Classico, and foresight in the early 1980s to plant Merlot as the ideal grape to complement Sangiovese in a very particular "terroir" has produced wines perfectly balanced between elegance, power and complexity.

Siepi is their flagship wine, a definitive single vineyard 'Super Tuscan'. It is an equal blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot from the Siepi vineyard, 230m above sea level and organically farmed since 2006. Grapes are vinified and aged separately, using 70% new oak. The resulting wine is monumentally built, with crispy notes of elder, plum, berries, sandalwood, tobacco, with a very long, bright finish. Its depth and flavour will complement flavourful, textured dishes, dark, rich sauces, game, and blue cheeses.

Though more than accessible in its youth, the aging potential of this wine is 20 years +.

"The 2019 Siepi continues a trend towards greater finesse and nuance in this wine. Crème de cassis, lavender, spice, licorice and plum meld together effortlessly in the glass. Dense and layered, with striking detail, the 2019 is so impressive. The flavors are bright, bold and punchy. An exceptionally beautiful and riveting wine, the 2019 is rich and concentrated, but not at all heavy. What a total knock-out." - 99 Points, Vinous

"This is a really racy and fine Siepi with currant black-cherry and dark-chocolate character. It's medium-to full-bodied with very long intense tannins that are linear and fine-textured. Really builds on the palate. Super structure. Finesse with power. Try after 2024 and onwards." - 98 Points, James Suckling

"Precise and captivating showing notes of sour cherries, fruits of the forest and crushed blueberries. Full bodied, silky tannins of splendid form and a linear finale of extraordinary beauty and unique craftsmanship. Siepi 2019 is an elegant and decidedly complex wine which stays balanced and deep without ever becoming heavy in the closure. Better from 2024." - 97 Points, Raffaele Vecchione, WinesCritic.com

"Power and seduction straight away on the nose, this smells intensely of black cherries and blueberries. The palate is juicy and instantly mouth-watering giving an abundance of succulent red berries and a touch of herbal spice on the finish. This is excellent quality, I adore it. Smooth and silky with purity and energy. Really shines in the glass - drinking well now but will also age." Georgina Hindle, Part of Siepi: 'A new era' Tastings for Decanter Magazine (Bordeaux, 20 Jul 2021)

"In 2019, a 'classic' good quality vintage in much of Tuscany, the vines experienced very large temperature differences between day and night in September, giving perfect ripeness allied to great freshness. This wine combines ripe, fruit-forward and super-floral aromas with a fresh, fleshy and elegant palate showcasing plush black cherry." James Button, Part of Siepi: 'A new era' Tastings for Decanter Magazine (The Petersham, London, 06 Sep 2022)
