Sauvignon Blanc
75cl * Organic & Biodynamic * 12.5% ABV * Marlborough, New Zealand
Huia Vineyards was established by Claire and Mike Allan when they planted the first vines in the Wairau Valley in 1994. After winemaking experience at key Marlborough wineries (most notably Kevin Judd's Cloudy Bay) and extended stages at Veuve Clicquot and Taittinger in Champagne, they made it their mission to create wines of utmost quality in the most environmentally sustainable possible. Certified organic and farming biodynamically, Huia makes some of New Zealand's most elegant, handcrafted wines from a range of wines.
The grapes for this wine come from two estates: the alluvial river-runs soils of the Huia home block that contributes subtle tropical notes, and the clay-based Winsome Vineyard which adds the clean minerality and a limey, linear backbone. Around 65% of the juice goes through a natural fermentation in French oak to add a little texture and complexity. The wine was fermented using wild yeasts that are naturally present on the vines.
This is an aromatic and uplifting Sauvignon. The palate is fine, well balanced and exhibits a classic minerality. This means you can enjoy it across a whole evening – one glass is never enough. Melon, guava, gooseberry and citrus are layered on the palate, with just a hint of the usual Marlborough passion fruit character. This wine is also highly age-worthy.
This will pair beautifully with anything from the raw bar, a more substantial white fish burger with mayo and pickle, or a simple melon, prosciutto and halloumi salad.
