75cl * Sustainable * 13% ABV * Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, Burgundy, France
A young domaine by name only, as it descends from Domaine Parigot de Meloisey in the Hautes Côtes de Beaune, Sébastien Magnien transferred to revamped cellars in Meursault in 2003. Today the property extends over 12 hectares and is managed according to sustainable principles, the whites coming from the Hautes Côtes, Saint-Romain and Meursault and the reds from Volnay, Pommard, Beaune and the Hautes Côtes. A talented young vigneron, Sébastien’s style is true to the most classical Burgundian traditions. With a hands-off approach in the cellar, and a minimalist use of oak that lets the terroir speak for itself, the wines are pure fruited and focused.
Planted by Sébastien’s grandparents on limestone terroirs around the village of Meloisey, the Hautes-Côtes Rouge has an appealing bouquet of sweet cassis and dark forest fruits. On the palate, juicy red berry flavours and hedgerow fruits are lifted by energetic acidity. Only 10% new oak, this wine stands out for its freshness and elegance. Excellent.
