One of the most traditional producers in Rioja, Bodegas Muga is the only winery in Spain with a master cubero and three of its own coopers. This ensures their barrels receive the right interior toasting to get wines of unique character. What stands out in the Muga Rosado 2021 vintage is its pale, rose-pink colour. After light maceration on the skins, the wine ferments in different sized wooden vats and new French-oak casks with very lightly toasted wood sourced from the Nevers region. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine remains for 4 months in the casks, with regular lees stirring to give greater complexity and a smooth mouth-feel.
Muga have created a wonderfully age-worthy rosé with a blend of the white Viura grape with the black Garnacha grape. The Rioja Rosado is very intense and complex on the nose, with an initial gush of peach, strawberry and white blossom notes. On the palate it proves a wine with very well integrated acidity, volume, balanced fruit and a very long finish.
Perfect with grilled fish, shellfish and rice dishes, among others. Ideal for drinking by the glass, as a starter or with a small appetiser on a sunny terrace.
