Riesling
75cl * Vegan * Organic * 13.5% ABV * Marlborough, New Zealand
The Framingham label was launched in 1994 with one Riesling, and has since expanded to include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Their Riesling vines, planted in 1981, are among the oldest in Marlborough. A strictly limited edition, the F-Series gives the winemaking team the flexibility to experiment with techniques and create small-batch wines that capture the essence of each vintage, resulting in some of Marlborough’s most exciting wines. Their estate has been certified organic since 2014.
Grapes for the F-Series Old Vine Riesling were selected from organically grown vines planted in the early 1980s in Renwick, Marlborough. Soils are composed of greywacke (a hard, dark type of sandstone streaked with quartz and feldspar) mixed with alluvial gravel and silt. Fruit for the F-Series Old Vine Riesling is gently pressed and undergoes fermentation with wild yeasts. A portion of the wine is fermented in large seasoned acacia barrels, another in stainless steel barrels and a small percentage in ceramic jars to add more texture and complexity, and the entire blend spends nine months on lees.
On the nose there bright notes of orange peel and lemon zest, with some savoury characteristics and aromas of sourdough bread. The palate shows exotic fruit flavours with great power and concentration. The mouthfeel is textural and draws out to a fine acidic finish.
