Grenache, Syrah

75cl * Organic * 14.0% ABV * Rhone Valley, France

Whilst the Perrin's are mainly known for their signature Chateauneuf du Pape they also own some fantastic sites in other villages namely Gigondas and Carianne. Their Cairanne Peyre Blanche is simply stunning value - so much so that the first few cases of our allocation are bought by Taurus staff!

The 14-hectare vineyard is located south west of the old hilltop village between Rasteau and Sainte Cécile Les Vignes, an ideal position to allow the Grenache to ripen slowly. Part of the vines were planted back in the 1950’s and all are now cultivated 100% organically. In the heart of the historical vineyard the stony, chalky terroir inspired this wines name; ‘Peyre’ from the French ‘pierre’ meaning stone and ‘Blanche’ meaning white.

2021 was a vintage marked by freshness, similar to the vintages of the eighties and nineties. The Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%) are vinified in stainless-steel or concrete vats to preserve that freshness, balance, and just the right amount of tannins. The wine is not aged in wood for the same reasons, resulting in deliciously mouth-watering, fruit-driven wines. This Cairanne is a full-bodied wine that develops magnificent aromas of blackcurrant, garrigue, and liquorice.

This Rhone blend is an excellent match for lamb dishes.

Drinking Window: 2025-2030

~ Taurus notes from a cask sample tasted on 4th October 2022 ~

"Jam, blue/black-fruit and hint of truffle. Such a good vintage - the palate is full of ripe black fruit and a hint of spice paired with incredibly soft tannins."
