Syrah
75cl * Organic & Biodynamic * 14.5% ABV * Rhône Valley, France
In the Rhône Valley, 2021 is a year that will leave an indelible mark in winegrowers’ heart, where, in spite of a chaotic season, the hard work has revealed a vintage with profiles almost forgotten. Brightness, finesse and aromatic elegance are the main themes of the 2021 vintage. It follows in the footsteps of some of its glorious predecessors, wherein maturity bolstered great complexity.
If the Syrah grape ever had to fill in a passport form for its town of birth it would put down Hermitage with white Mourvedre as its parents. At the foot of Hermitage Hill, on a glacial, alluvial deposit terrace, with shingles and clay, 50 year old vines grow in the Les Greffieux vineyards. The wine is aged in a mixture of casks, some as large as 600 litre and some 225 litre, with roughly a quarter of them being new oak. The use of oak in this way is to soften the wine without adding strong oak flavours.

“Wow! A seriously inviting nose of violets, peonies, bramble and pure blue fruits. The palate the is full of blueberries, bilberries, tayberries, cocoa, tobacco, mocha freshness, bright acidity and focused, linear, meaty, aged leather and sweet beetroot, silky elegant tannins and of course the signature saline finish from the pure granite soils that Chapoutier is so famous for.”
