Shiraz
75cl * 13.5% ABV * Margaret River, Australia
Leeuwin Estate is known for producing some of the finest wines, released under their 'Art Series' label, in the entirety of Australia. Famously, Robert Mondavi - of California wine fame - visited the property in the early 1970s and recognised its potential for making exceptional wines.
This Shiraz has gentle textures, woven layers and bright acidity. Dense Satsuma plums, redcurrants and raspberries surround the mid palate. Elements of smoked cedar and cracked coffee bean combine with a mineral thread, leading to long structural tannins. An abundance of ripe cassis, plums and sweet, toasty spice followed by a dollop of dark chocolate and cherry brandy flavour for added measure. Precise and focused in Leeuwin's signature style with some desirable pepperiness and mouth-watering acidity, it is a superb, relatively tame style of Shiraz for Aussie standards.
“Very deep crimson. Leathery tannins and saline. Clever but youthful. Very polished. Dry end and very vigorous.” 17++ / 20 points. Jancis Robinson, November 2022
