75cl * 14.1% ABV * Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Jean Guiton founded the Domaine in 1975 and his son, Guillaume, joined the family business in 1998. Very much a hybrid estate, Guillaume owns 4 hectares, rents the rest and even buys grapes in his pursuit of the best he can get. His methods vary based on vintage circumstances but he usually de-stems his red grapes and mostly avoids fining and filtration, harvests by hand and rarely uses more than 20% new oak. The family produce wines of real charm, finesse and purity on the most beautiful land of la Côte de Beaune.
Wines from this southern end of the commune of Beaune, from the premier cru plot of Les Sizies, are smoother and fuller than their northern counterparts, which tend to be more intense and powerful. Les Sizies is an 8.5 hectare 1er cru Pinot Noir vineyard on somewhat flat ground and Guiton has a small southeast facing plot of vines originally planted in 1943. The soil is a mixture of limestone and red clay, offering wines with lots of fruit that can deliver in their youth while also having the structure to age for a good 15 years.
This wine has a striking and vivid colour - a luminous scarlet, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, red cherry, gooseberry, as well as forest floor and herbaceous earth, which with age will develop truffle, leather, and spice flavours.
Serving temperature 15 to 16°C.
