All Cullen wines are grown on a certified Biodynamic, carbon neutral and naturally powered estate thanks to the pioneering spirit of Vanya Cullen, the grandaughter on vines planted in 1971 on ancient gravelly, granite soils. Biodynamic farming began here in Margaret River, under the meticulous care of Vanya Cullen and the Cullen family, who have been crafting premium wines in this region for over 50 years.
The 2019 Diana Madeline was born of a low yielding, warm vintage after a "short and sweet" harvest on fruit and flower days according to the astrological calendar. Their wines have no additions of yeast, acid or malolactic culture and are, in this sense, natural, and express the place and land on which they are grown.
Deep mulberry-red in colour with youthful purple hues. Deeply perfumed on the nose with delicious aromas of violets, wild rose, satsuma, plum, and cigar box. Both light and intense on the palate with fruit density, balance and opulence. Fine tannins float across the palate, revealing notes of plum, rose and chocolate.
This wine will age for up to 50 years.
"Incredible power and concentration here, and yet, still lithe and so finely wrought. It’s ultra-mineral in feel with iron and dense graphite tannin, but perfumed and spice-laden too. The quality and feel of tannin here is something quite extraordinary. Plum and dark cherry, dark tobacco, whiff of empty chocolate box, superb length of flavour. Essence of Cabernet. Essential Cabernet. We’ve never had it so good." Gary Walsh, The Winefront
