Christian and Christophe Bellang (father and son) have expanded the family estate over the last few decades to nine hectares, with Christophe now at the helm after joining his father in the 90s. Some of the Bellang vineyards are widely argued by critics to be one of Meursault's most underrated - this is, after all, a region with no official Grand Cru plots. Today Christophe manages the estate and bottles around 40% of production under his own label. He makes wines which are fruit forward, easy going and perfect for drinking young.
This is classic Meursault, rather than the rich and oaky modern style, this is discreet and well-balanced with ripe orchard fruit and a creamy lees influence. Lemon peel and juice, toasted hazelnut and dairy notes sit underneath a wine rippling with energy and tautness, full of fruit and buttery minerality. The wine has exceptional length and is well worth cellaring for up to 10 years. A serious food wine, particularly with creamy sauces.
