Rays Road is Kumeu River’s newest vineyard site in Hawkes Bay. The unique limestone hillside at 180 metres altitude is dry-farmed to yield high quality grapes. This Chardonnay was hand-harvested, whole bunch pressed and fermented with wild yeast in older French Oak barrels to produce a wine that is buttery, zesty and fragrant, with a mineral complexity that is a true expression of its terroir.
New clonal plantings of Chardonnay in their first year of production have been blended with existing vines, giving extra ripeness and richness with their fresh limestone vibrancy. The result is an exciting Chardonnay showing white flowers and lemon on the nose, with vibrant acidity and tingly oyster-shell minerality on the palate.
Drink to 2027.
"Neat and well integrated, quite restrained. And already very accessible though with light, fine tannins and quite opulent fruit on the front palate. Sprightly. Lemon-pastille flavour. Very long. Beautifully made." 17/20 points, Jancis Robinson
