Alpine freshness in a glass...

Since it was established in 1932,  the Nals Margreid cooperative has focused on creating variety and terroir-driven wines from South Tyrol, where Italy’s northernmost wine-growing region borders on the Alps and the Dolomites.

A true 'mountain vineyard', Penon is grown at an altitude of between 500–600m. Here, limestone gravel and cool mountain winds combine to extend the growing season and allow for an unusually late harvest.

Pinot Bianco (another name for Pinot Blanc) is simply a mutation of Pinot Noir that has  lost its colour, hence it makes for a quite full-bodied style of white wine. And when ripe, the fruit works really well with a little wood incorporated into the winemaking process.

At Nals Margried, hand-picked grapes are fermented slowly at low temperatures and aged for seven months on fine lees in large oak barrels, giving texture and depth without overwhelming the fruit. This results in aromas of apple, kiwi, and subtle herbal notes with a lift of hawthorn. The palate is crisp, with vibrant acidity and a tangy mineral edge.

Pinot Bianco is Nals Margreid's signature wine and regularly wins Tre Biccheeri (three glasses) in the Italian 'wine bible', the Gamberro Rosso.

Serve as an aperitif or pair with spicy beef dishes, cold noodle salads, or aromatic Asian dishes. Equally, its freshness acts as a palate cleanser, cutting through the fat of fondue which makes them a delicious combination.
