Château Fonplégade's name (literally "fountain of plenty") was derived from the historic 13th century stone fountain that graces the estate's vineyard. It quenched the thirst of passing pilgrims for hundreds of years and continues to provide sustenance to the estate's vines in the driest vintages.

A near neighbour to the more famous Angélus, this small estate (18.5 hectares) in Saint Emilion is on the classic clay and limestone soil of the region. The vines are on average 30 years old and once picked, the grapes are fermented in tronconic (horse hoof shaped) vats for 25 days before being transferred into one-year-old French oak barrels for 15 months.

The estate is owned by American couple Denise and Stephen Adams. Many years ago they honeymooned in Saint-Emilion, where they immersed themselves in the region and its magnificent wines. After returning years later to Saint-Emilion to repeat their wedding vows, they discovered Château Fonplégade. When the Adamses acquired the estate in 2004, they embarked on a process of revitalization and renewal. In addition to Château Fonplégade in Saint-Emilion and Château l'Enclos in Pomerol, they are the owners and caretakers of ADAMVS on the slopes of Napa Valley's Howell Mountain.

Fleur de Fonplegade 2019 is a brilliant ruby-red, marked by fresh cherries aromas and reveals at the last moment delicate vanilla notes. Complex layers of fruit red, ranging from a fresh strawberry to bright cherries, passing by notes of crunchy raspberries abound on the palate. The finish lingers on subtle aromas of vanilla. The tannins are supple on this young vintage full of freshness.
