Château Cantemerle is situated in the stunningly beautiful far south of the region, on the outskirts of the city of Bordeaux. A Fifth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification (although technically it was missed off and officially added in 1856, a rare amendment to the legendary map).

2022 is the first vintage produced entirely under the estate's new Managing Director, Laure Canu, and thus the first expression of the estate's new, more precise approach to winemaking. Awarded 93-93 points by James Suckling (up from 90-91 for the 2021 vintage), while William Kelley for Wine Advocate awards 92-94 points (its highest ever score from this critic body), calling it "the finest wine this estate has produced in some time".

Taurus Wines sourced this parcel of wine en-primeur and it has been stored in bond or in temperature controlled storage by us ever since, offering the perfect provenance.

Pair with classic roast beef, game, lamb roasts, stews, or firm cheeses.

Drink 2028 to 2040.

“The finest wine this estate has produced in some time is the 2022 Cantemerle, a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc that bursts from the glass with aromas of sweet blackberries, violets, rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with an enveloping core of sweet, perfumed fruit framed by supple tannin, it concludes with a long, mouthwatering finish. The pH is a very healthy 3.6 this year, and yields were low at 29 hectoliters per hectare.” 92-94 points, Wine Advocate

“Intense in both colour and structure, a wine that knows how to make an impact, and it is carrying itself with confidence. Impressive, full of nuanced cassis and bilberry fruit, with liqourice and smoked earth, hints of richly spiced vanilla patisserie cream showing the ripeness of the vintage. This is good, a little abrupt on the finish with a bitter almond kick. Tight tannins at this point. 40% new oak for ageing.” 93 points, Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux
