A typical Tuscan blend of mainly Sangiovese (for colour and aroma) and Cabernet Sauvignon (for body and tannin), the Capezzana certified organic estate – situated in the Carmignano zone to the west of Florence – sources its fruit from 104 hectares of vineyard which lie 150-200 metres above sea level that benefit from largely south-facing views. A vineyard of some kind has been planted here since 804 AD!
Rich ruby red in colour, this is aromatic with sour cherry, plum and red berry notes swaddled in spicy, French oak. Rounded and ripe on the palate, it shows careful balance between primary, exuberant fruit and grippy tannins. This is the sort of Tuscan wine you drink whilst waiting for your prized bottles to age slowly in the cellar.
Somewhere between Chianti and Bordeaux in style, the crunchy red fruit and ample acidity will competently cut through the fattiness of roast lamb. Alternatively, pair with tomato-based dishes and hard Italian cheeses.
