Marsala is made in a process similar to Sherry, that is in a solera system - these fortified wines were historically made in order to withstand long-distance sea travel. The Pellegrino Winery has been closely linked to Marsala for seven generations. The over 2000 years old, ever contested, port city in the west of Sicily was named "Marsa Allah" during an Arab rule phase, which later became Marsala. The wine was named after the city.

Cantine Pellegrino Marsala Superiore Old Dry is an aged, dry (or Secco) style of Marsala, perfect as an aperitif or as an ingredient in Italian savoury dishes like chicken or veal Marsala. The wine is aged in oak for 2 years and as a drier style is light amber in colour with pleasant citrus notes of mandarin and orange peel. These are continued on the palate with light notes of hazelnut and carob.

Can be served lightly chilled as an aperitif or with terrines and also desserts like apple tart and crème caramel.
