Marsala is made in a process similar to Sherry, that is in a solera system - these fortified wines were historically made in order to withstand long-distance sea travel. The Pellegrino Winery has been closely linked to Marsala for seven generations. The over 2000 years old, always contested port city in the west of Sicily was named "Marsa Allah" during an Arab rule phase, which later became Marsala. The wine was named after the city.
An outstanding dessert wine, this Marsala Superiore 'Garibaldi Sweet' has an intense amber colour, a pleasant aroma of plum and honeyed notes of dried fig. This Marsala Superiore dolce is aged for at least 2 years in oak barrels. Fine sweetness, it is full and rich on the palate with a well integrated wood note, and a soft, long finish.
Pair with desserts, matured cheese, cakes and biscuits, and terrines.
