Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca
50cl * 19.5% ABV * Douro, Portugal
In 1761, Portugal's de facto ruler, the Marquis de Pombal, ordered stone markers be placed around the Douro wine region to delineate its best vineyards – Quinta da Pedra Alta was the only producer to have three markers on its property. This is a rich and complex Tawny Port, aged first in traditional granite lagares (the large stone troughs in which grapes are initially pressed) and then old oak casks. Known as the ‘Queen’ of Port, Tawny is lighter in body and colour than Ruby Port and this offers some inviting notes of orange peel, toasted nut, toffee, and dried fruit. Serve slightly chilled with chocolate desserts or a cheeseboard.
