Perfumed, aromatic and with a notable floral twist of violets. Silky and elegant throughout the palate with an abundance of blackcurrant and red berry fruits.
'Arenite' is the terroir of pinky, crumbly sandstone of the La Madone vineyards, rated as the best vineyard area in Fleurie (Burgundy, France). The area and chapel at the top of the hill are dedicated to the Virgin Mary as thanks for the village of Fleurie not being invaded during the Franco-Prussian war, the quality coming from the sandy soil here draining more quickly than the surrounding area, lowering the water content of the grapes and in turn producing deeper and more concentrated wines. This combines with the east / south east facing vineyards being vertigo inducingly steep in places which increases the vines exposure to the sun.
In winter match with a roast leg of lamb; during the summer, chill and serve with roast or barbecued chicken or pork.
