Women-led and sustainable, Wente is America's oldest continuously operated, family-owned winery and it is likely that all of the Chardonnay in California derives from the original Wente clone. Its Livermore vineyards, 30 miles from San Francisco Bay, benefit from billowing fogs that roll in off the sea and help produce fruit with plenty of acidity to counter the variety's inherent butteriness.
Try it with richer seafood dishes, such as lobster Thermidor or turbot en croûte.
