When you combine legendary terroir, meticulously cared-for vines, a perfect vintage and an ideal, smooth harvest, you have all the makings of a remarkable wine. This represents a benchmark for Napa Cab. Made with fruit from their Red Barn, Chavez-Leeds, and Rossi vineyards in Rutherford where vines have an average age of 17 years. After years of effort with organic viticulture, dry farming and minimal cellar intervention Frog's Leap have created a wine that could not be produced outside of the 10 square miles that define its appellation.
The wine has beautiful balance, restraint and respect for the terroir it's grown on, with classic but subtle cassis, cedar and black olive flavours. After 20 months of aging in French oak barrels (20% new overall), the 2018 abounds in the famous Rutherford ‘Dust’, an affectionate catch-all for garrigue herbs and black fruit, the tension between the flavours, and a long finish reminiscent of rough velvet. We concur with winemaker John Williams's suggestion that you put some bottles deep in your cellar!
Pair with duck, braised beef short ribs, roasted vegetable tarts, grilled rib-eye steak or aged hard cheese.
