Western Cape Red Blend (53% shiraz, 19% pinotage, 8% cabernet franc, 6% merlot, 5% malbec, 3% petit verdot, 3% mourvèdre, 2% grenache noir, and 1% marselan)

75cl * 14.0% ABV * Western Cape, South Africa

From grapes grown on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain between the wine-growing areas of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa. This is made at the beautiful Babylonstoren estate, which garden and fine food afficionados may well have heard about as it has the most stunning kitchen, medicinal and flower gardens as well as a farm shop selling estate-pressed olive oil.

This red blend has a soft mouthfeel and juicy, lingering finish. Pencil shavings and sweet tobacco with mulberry and cherries on the nose. Well-judged oak maturation, adds layers of sweet spice, vanilla and dark chocolate. On the palate, succulent black fruit with a savoury edge of cigar box and graphite are held together beautifully with smooth tannins and a tightly knit structure.

Youthful and vibrant with enough depth to hold its own in the company of slow-cooked game or oxtail stews, barbecued boerewors, grilled lamb chops with rosemary or lightly spiced pulled pork shoulder.

Serve at room temperature (16–18°C).
