Pinot Noir

75cl * 13.5% ABV * Santa Maria Valley, California, USA

Alexander Payne's 2004 film Sideways must be given a little credit for boosting sales of Californian Pinot Noir around the world. However, Au Bon Climat (which has been making Pinot since 1982 - two decades before Sideways was released) was always on its way to stardom.

The Santa Maria Valley AVA is one of the coolest wine growing regions in California. Pinot Noirs from here are distinctive and noted for their wonderful aromatics of cranberry, cherry, rose hip, and earthy spice. This is leagues above many others Pinots in the same price category, brimming with strawberry and blackberry aromas and a touch of clove and anise. Made from grapes grown at Bien Nacido and Le Bon Climat Vineyards, this is a mouth-filling and generous Pinot, but very much in a Burgundian style.

A very versatile food wine - best with grilled pork chops, Coq au Vin, or lamb in its youth and better yet with more complex mushroom, teriyaki salmon, truffle or game dishes as it gains complexity with age.

Drinking window: Now - 2028

"Very pale crimson. Pretty sweet palate... fresh and ferny... light and delicate". A reserved, classy, European style Pinot from one of California's top growers." Jancis Robinson MW
