300cl * 14% ABV * Beaujolais, France
This is a serious and impressive Cru Beaujolais (the Crus being the 10 best villages in Beaujolais) which has been in the Beaune negociant Louis Jadot stable since 1996. Made more akin to the wines of Burgundy 'proper' rather than down in Beaujolais, this is ageworthy Gamay that can compete with some of Beaune's finest. Rich and structured with dark berry fruit compote, rose, milk chocolate and black tea elements. Lovely and ripe on the palate with a mineral undertone and fine, dusty tannins. Cellar for up to a decade. Pair with chicken or duck in a fruity sauce or even steak tartare.
